Activism & Safety
Activism & Safety is a data page on the Domestic Intelligence desk of Glassbox Auditing. U.S. protests since 2017 as the Crowd Counting Consortium records them (events, places, organisers, crowd-size ranges, arrests), and the finances of the major environmental, safety, human-rights and disaster-response organisations from their IRS filings. - No Kings is named as organiser at the most recorded protests: 2,411 events since March 2025 — Groups named as organisers in the consortium's records, as it reports them. Naming a group says nothing about the views of the people who attended. (Crowd Counting Consortium, 30 May 2026)
- 44,467 in-person protest events in the 12 months to February 2026, +15% on the 12 before — Reported crowds 8,744,248 - 13,778,976 people at 13,773 events with a size estimate; 348 events with arrests, 113 with injuries. - American Civil Liberties Union (Foundation) is named at the most protests of the organisations followed: 1,054 events in the 12 months to February 2026 — In-person protest events whose organiser list names the organisation (an event can name several), a measure of street presence, not of any attendee's views. (Crowd Counting Consortium, 27 Feb 2026)
- 39,088 in-person protest events across the states in 2025, -3% on 2024; most in California — 302 events with arrests; reported crowds of at least 8,073,206 people. Counts follow population, so the largest states lead. (Crowd Counting Consortium, 30 Dec 2025)
- American Red Cross took in $3.92B on its 2024 Form 990, the most of the 26 organisations followed — Environmental, safety, human-rights and disaster-response organisations; each figure is the organisation's latest e-filed return, so tax years differ. Next: Direct Relief $2.4B, Americares $1.85B, Environmental Defense… (Internal Revenue Service (Form 990 filings), 30 Dec 2024)

What does this page lead to?
- Lawmaking (Domestic Intelligence): Sustained protest on an issue tends to be followed by bills on it in cities, states and Congress; research finds protest raises lawmakers' attention to the issues raised. - Company (Companies): Protests and boycotts aimed at a named company, such as the 2025 demonstrations at Tesla showrooms, can cut its store traffic and sales; the records list each event's target as reported. (either way, depending on the cause; weeks to months; company scale) Source: Crowd Counting Consortium (Harvard Ash Center / UConn), CC0 1.0.
- Election Outlook (Domestic Intelligence): A study of the 2009 Tea Party rallies found larger local protests raised later turnout and votes for the movement's candidates (Madestam et al., 2013), so protest is one input to how races go. - Universities (Education): Campus protests in 2023-24 were followed by congressional hearings, university presidents' resignations and, in 2025, federal funding freezes at several universities.
