Stock by Stock
Stock by Stock is a data page on the Markets desk of Glassbox Auditing. An index can rise while most of its stocks fall. Each stock's move and buying set against its own history shows whether a day's gain is broad or carried by a few names.

What does this page lead to?
- Leadership (Companies): Insiders tend to add to their holdings after price falls and to trim them after rises, so a large move in a stock often comes before Form 4 trades by its executives and directors. (either way, depending on the cause; days to weeks; company scale) Source: SEC Form 4 insider filings.
- Valuation (Companies): Between reports a company's earnings stay fixed, so its share price move changes its P/E one for one and shifts where it sits against its own 10-year range. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance quarterly statements.
- Dividend Health (Companies): A rising price lowers a stock's dividend yield and a falling one raises it; a yield far above its own history often reflects a price drop tied to doubts about the payout. (moves the other way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Company Options (Options): A large move in a stock tends to bring heavier trading in its options the same day as traders hedge or reposition; Company Options ranks that option volume, in contracts, against the company's own past spikes. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: Robinhood options market data (OPRA).
- Live Now (Markets): The largest stocks carry the most weight in SPY, so a big move in one of them moves the index and what Live Now shows. (moves the same way; same day; economy scale) Source: State Street, SPY daily holdings.
- AI Supply Chain (AI): Chip, memory, networking and data-center stocks tend to move together because their revenue comes from the same AI spending; a big move in one shows up across the layers on AI Supply Chain. (moves the same way; same day; sector scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Market Behavior (Markets): The engine checks each stock's stored trades and bars for the same days Stock by Stock shows, against that stock's own usual session, and flags the patterns it finds for review. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: Market behavior measured by the terminal (fixed episode templates over stored trades, quotes and bars).
What feeds this page?
- Company (Companies): A company's filings, results and news move its own share price first; Stock by Stock shows that move and its trading against the stock's own history. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Company Research (Companies): Buybacks retire shares and add a steady bidder for the stock; with fewer shares, the same profit gives higher earnings per share. (moves the same way; quarters; company scale) Source: SEC EDGAR XBRL company facts (10-Q/10-K).
- Leadership (Companies): Companies must file an 8-K within four business days when a chief executive or finance chief leaves or joins, and the shares tend to move on the day it is announced, in either direction. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: SEC Form 8-K item 5.02 (director and officer departures and appointments).
- Dividend Health (Companies): A dividend cut tends to drop the shares on the day it is announced as income holders leave, so weak cover is a price risk as well as an income risk. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Courts & Lawsuits (Companies): A large judgment, an SEC charge or a shareholder class action becoming public tends to move the company's shares the same day. (moves the other way; same day; company scale) Source: CourtListener (Free Law Project), RECAP federal dockets and opinions.
- Company History (Companies): Dated filings and headlines on the timeline line up with the share price on those days, which is how a past price move is traced to its cause. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Mergers & Acquisitions (Companies): Once a deal is announced the target's shares tend to trade toward the offer price; the gap left is the market's doubt that it closes on those terms. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: SEC EDGAR filings (10-Q/10-K text).
- Service Outages (Companies): A long, widely felt outage costs the provider service credits and some customers, and can move its shares that day, as CrowdStrike's did after its July 2024 update failure. (moves the other way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Insurance Coverage (Domestic Intelligence): The storms and fires that lift flood claims also bring wind and fire losses that private insurers carry (NFIP flood losses are federal), so listed property insurers tend to dip around large events. (moves the other way; days; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance: share prices of listed property and casualty insurers and reinsurers (ALL, TRV, CB, PGR, HIG, UVE, HCI, HRTG, RNR, EG).
- Election Outlook (Domestic Intelligence): Sectors most exposed to policy tend to move most when control changes hands; after the November 2024 result, bank and small-company shares rose and solar shares fell. (either way, depending on the cause; days; sector scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Cloud Outages (Global Intelligence): A long, widely felt outage at a listed provider has at times been followed by a fall in its shares and by customers' claims for service credits; brief incidents usually leave no mark. (moves the other way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Finance (Global Intelligence): Bitcoin's price feeds into crypto-exposed stocks: Coinbase's fees rise with crypto trading and Strategy holds bitcoin on its balance sheet, so both tend to move with it the same day. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Live Now (Markets): SPY holds the S&P 500 by market value, so its move each day is driven mostly by its largest holdings; Stock by Stock shows each of them against its own history. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: State Street, SPY daily holdings.
- SPY History (Markets): When SPY rises while fewer S&P 500 stocks rise or stand above their averages, a few of the largest holdings are carrying the index, which is the concentration Stock by Stock shows holding by holding. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: S&P 500 market breadth counted by the terminal (Alpaca daily closes of the S&P 500 members in State Street's SPY holdings).
- Options (Markets): Dealers on the other side of customers' option trades hedge in the underlying shares, so a burst of option volume in a stock often adds to its share volume and can extend or damp its move. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: Robinhood options market data (OPRA).
- Retail vs Institutions (Markets): A spike in a stock's retail share or its estimated trade balance sits beside its own move on Stock by Stock; the estimate is a proxy read from trade prices, not a record of who traded. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: Retail and institutional order flow estimated by the terminal (the subpenny method of Boehmer, Jones, Zhang and Zhang, 2021).
- Market Behavior (Markets): Two templates compare SPY with its holdings: a few large holdings moving the index, or SPY's price drifting from its basket until arbitrage closes the gap; Stock by Stock shows those holdings' own days. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: State Street, SPY daily holdings.
- Today's Spikes (Options): Dealers who take the other side of a spike hedge in the shares, so a large option spike often comes with extra share volume in the stock; the two are counted apart, contracts and shares. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: Robinhood options market data (OPRA).
- Dealer Gamma (Options): On the page's assumption (dealers long calls, short puts), hedging near a call wall leans against a rise and hedging below a put wall leans with a fall; Stock by Stock shows what the shares did. (either way, depending on the cause; next sessions; company scale) Source: ThetaData option chains (end-of-day reports, open interest, trades with quotes).
- Wall Scanner (Options): A price near a call wall is read two ways: resistance, if dealers' hedging leans against the rise, or a squeeze, if dealers short those calls must add shares as it climbs; Stock by Stock shows what followed. (either way, depending on the cause; next sessions; company scale) Source: Dealer gamma computed by the terminal (Black-Scholes greeks from closing mids; dealers assumed long calls and short puts).
- Profiles (People & Money): Studies find insiders' open-market purchases tend to precede above-average returns in their own stock, while their sales carry less information because many are for taxes or diversification. (either way, depending on the cause; days to months; company scale) Source: SEC Insider Transactions Data Sets.
- Federal Contractors (People & Money): The Defense Department announces every contract worth $7.5 million or more each business day, and large awards or cancellations can move the named contractor's shares. (moves the same way; same day; company scale) Source: USAspending.gov (U.S. Treasury): federal contracts, grants and loans by recipient.
- Relationship Graph (People & Money): Studies find news at a major customer reaches its suppliers' share prices with a lag (Cohen and Frazzini, 2008), so shares of linked companies tend to move together after news at one of them. (moves the same way; days to weeks; company scale) Source: Yahoo Finance prices.
- Investment Reports (People & Money): When many large funds add the same stock in a quarter, their combined buying is part of what moved its price; 13Fs arrive up to 45 days after the quarter, so they record past flows. (moves the same way; 45 days after quarter end; company scale) Source: SEC Form 13F holdings reports (EDGAR).
