Energy
Energy is a data page on the Global Intelligence desk of Glassbox Auditing. Oil and gas pipelines, LNG terminals, power plants, nuclear sites, refineries and live ship traffic at the chokepoints, with energy futures, radiation readings and the world pipeline and LNG registry. Energy is a cost in nearly every product and trip, so an outage at a large plant, terminal or route reaches power, fuel and freight prices.

What is on this page today?
- Oil ports with tanker flows below their 2019-22 normal: 38, unchanged on a day earlier — 64 oil ports; 38 below normal tanker flows, 16 without a 2019-22 normal; tanker flows over the last 7 days against the same month in 2019-22 (IMF PortWatch, 8 Nov 2026)
- 7 of 7 radiation stations read within their normal range; Seattle is highest at 1.21x its 30-day median — EPA RadNet · rain washes natural radon to the ground and briefly raises readings (EPA RadNet, 8 Nov 2026)
Where does the data come from?
Items on this page come from IMF PortWatch; EPA RadNet. Each item links to its own source. All sources, how items are checked.
What does this page lead to?
- Natural Gas (Macro): An outage at a big U.S. LNG export terminal leaves more gas at home and less abroad, which tends to lower Henry Hub and raise European and Asian prices, as after the Freeport LNG fire in June 2022. (either way, depending on the cause; days to weeks; global scale) Source: FRED: Henry Hub spot (DHHNGSP, from EIA); IMF import prices for Europe (PNGASEUUSDM) and Japan LNG (PNGASJPUSDM).
- Oil Stress (Macro): Fewer tankers through the chokepoints, or a struck refinery or pipeline pump station, adds to the shipping, supply and refining parts of the oil stress reading. (moves the same way; same week; global scale) Source: IMF PortWatch, daily chokepoint transits (satellite AIS).
- Fuel & Charging (Domestic Intelligence): Refinery outages cut gasoline and diesel supply in the region the refinery serves, which tends to lift that region's pump prices within a week or two. (moves the same way; 1-2 weeks; economy scale) Source: EIA Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update (weekly retail $/gallon).
- Energy Industry (Companies): The plants, terminals and pipelines on the map are run by the companies in the energy directory, so an outage there lands on a named operator's output and contracts. (either way, depending on the cause; same day; company scale) Source: BTU Graph open energy directory (graph.json, companies.csv; CC BY 4.0, attribute BTU Graph).
- Prices & Inflation (Macro): Power plant and gas supply outages raise wholesale electricity costs, which utilities pass into household bills, part of the consumer price index, over the following months. (moves the same way; months; economy scale) Source: EIA electricity retail sales (residential price by state).

- Wildfires & Hurricanes (Global Intelligence): Gulf of Mexico hurricanes force offshore platforms to evacuate and shut in output and close Gulf Coast refineries and LNG terminals, as Hurricane Ida shut in nearly all Gulf oil output in 2021.
