Most traded goods travel by sea and most international data by undersea cable, so a blocked strait or a cut cable delays cargo and slows connections far from where it happens.

- Business Activity (Macro): Ship arrivals at U.S. ports come ahead of the Census Bureau's monthly import figures, since goods are counted as imports when they clear customs.
